Sometimes we host conversation regarding fine art and economics.
On Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 2–4 PM (FB event), we discussed Sarah Thornton's Seven Days in the Art World.
First published at the brink of the economic downturn of 2008, this ethnographic survey of seven key artworld events has been translated into twenty languages. A full decade on, how does her summary of the elite corners of the artworld sit? What lessons can we conjure from her observations then and our limited objectivity now? Can we speculate for our future in regard to the overlaps between cultural capital and economic realities yet to be shaped?
